Sony Announces Date of Conference at MWC 2018
That's it: Sony announces its arrival at the Mobile World Congress in February 2018. Its press conference will take place the morning of the opening of the Barcelona show. It remains to be seen what will be revealed. Rumors speak of a certain XZ Pro ...
Even if there was no doubt, an official confirmation is always good to take. Like some of our Anglo-Saxon colleagues, we received a formal invitation from findmobileprice.com for the Sony Mobile press conference. It will take place Monday, February 26, 2018, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, a few minutes after the opening of the exhibition hall doors, on the stand of Sony. You can see, below, a screenshot of our invitation.
Unlike LG, Huawei or Samsung, holding a Sony press conference during the show and not the day before is not surprising. Because the Japanese firm does not usually organize a keynote in a room outside. This is less incompatible with major conferences like the Samsung Unpacked, held in large auditoriums located in Barcelona, but not necessarily next to the MWC. This same communication strategy is adopted by Wiki, for example, which also unveils his terminals on his stand.
It remains to be seen what the Japanese brand will reveal in Barcelona. Because, apparently, she has already used some of her cartridges at CES. Usually, Sony presents in Spain one or two flagships and several mid-range terminals. Last year, the line-up consisted of Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra, Xperia XZs and Xperia XZ Premium. But in Las Vegas, Sony has formalized the XA2 and XA2 Ultra (with the L2). So, there should be no announcement on the mid-range. So stay upscale!
... but the very high end!
According to recent rumors, including that relayed by the Chinese site Mydrivers, a potential candidate would be the Xperia XZ Pro. It would be a premium XZ brought up to date (implying adopting the latest trends and platforms). Side data sheet, we would find a 4K screen, like the XZ Premium, whose size would be a little more substantial: 5.7 inches. The ratio of the screen would change (finally) to 18 / 9e. Backlight technology would also change: finally OLED at Sony Mobile!
Inside, no surprise: the chipset would be the Snapdragon 845, accompanied here by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Again, Sony is catching up with more RAM and more internal space (the XZ1 and XZ Premium come with 4GB and 64GB, respectively). The battery would offer a capacity of 3420 mAh.
Side photo, a lot of change there too: dual camera at the back with the primary sensor of 18 megapixels (pixels 1.33 micron wide) and 12-megapixel secondary sensor (pixels 1.38 micron wide). At the front, the webcam would be equipped with a 13-megapixel sensor. The set would be stored in a sealed chassis, naturally. The price of the beast would be up to the ambitions of the mobile: nearly 800 euros. Confirmation (or not) of all this in a month.
