The iPhone X is not only the tenth premium iPhone of the brand (not to mention the iPhone 5C, iPhone SE and “Plus” versions), but it also personifies the ten years of the original iPhone presented by Steve Jobs in 2007. Apple introduced this mobile in September 2017 with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which stands out for its design. The iPhone X is available in Silver or Gray sidereal with 64 or 256 GB of storage capacity.
Glass and stainless steel
A design that wants to be modern while recalling the past. A paradox that translates on the one hand by a waterproof chassis (IP67 certification) in mineral glass and stainless steel, a nod to the iPhone 4 which was one of the most beautiful achievements of Apple. And on the other hand, we find at the front a slab “borderless” that accounts for almost 83% of the front surface of the mobile.
A space has been reserved, on the top of the slab, for all the environmental sensors and, especially, for the 3D facial recognition system. It consists of a webcam, an infrared camera and a projector points invisible to the naked eye.
5.8-inch Super Retina HD borderless screen
The screen, whose corners are rounded and follow the contours of the mobile, measures 5.8 inches, a diagonal greater than that of the iPhone 8 Plus. But the dimensions of the mobile are smaller. The backlight technology of the slab is Super AMOLED. The definition of the screen is “Super Retina HD,” or 1125 x 2436 pixels. That is a resolution of 458 pixels per inch. This is the best definition of an iPhone screen so far. Finally, this display is compatible Dolby Vision, HDR10, 3D Touch and has an improved colorimetry.
As a result of the integration of a borderless tile, the Touch ID button has completely disappeared, partially replaced by a new on-screen software bar for accessing multitasking and returning to the main menu. The fingerprint reader disappears, the second sacrifice after the jack 3.5 mm in 2016, which has not returned and is still replaced by the Lightning port (accompanied by an adapter for nostalgic). Two speakers are built-in: one on the bottom edge and another hidden in the headset.
A11 Bionic hexa-core chipset
Inside the box hides a new chipset: the A11 Bionic. This is a hexa-core very similar to Snapdragon 808 from Qualcomm, but much more powerful. The component has two “Monsoon” hearts for heavy tasks and four “Mistral” hearts for light tasks. With these six cores able to function at the same time as needed, the A11 Bionic has an M11 coprocessor and two coprocessors dedicated to the neuronal system (artificial intelligence). These two coprocessors are used in particular for facial recognition.
The A11 Bionic is accompanied by 3 GB of RAM, as well as a battery whose capacity is not officially unveiled. However, it is compatible with fast charge technology and wireless charging (standard Qi). And Apple promises an autonomy of 21 hours in 3G conversation. The iPhone X has an LTE category 16 modem, WiFi ac dual band MiMo and Bluetooth 5.0 (as well as the second generation of Bluetooth customized by Apple called W2). The smartphone is also compatible GPS (Glonass, Galileo and Beidou) and NFC.
The dual 12-megapixel photo sensor
The photographic equipment is the same as that of the iPhone 8 Plus with one exception: the aperture of the telephoto lens changes from f / 2.8 to f / 2.4 for brighter pictures when you use the 2x optical zoom. For the rest, everything is the same: dual 12-megapixel iSight sensor with Focus Pixels technology (autofocus with phase detection built into the sensor), true-tone quad-LED flash, wide-angle lens opening at f / 1.8, auto-focus detection “Focus Pixels” phase and optical stabilizer (for photo and video). Small nuance, the stabilizer is now common to both sensors and no longer only associated with the wide-angle lens.
The image processor has evolved, as every year. In the front, the TrueDepth camera (ex FaceTime) is also kept with a definition of 7 megapixels. His goal still opens at f / 2.2. The iPhone X films, like the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus in 1080p up to 240 frames per second and in 4K at 60 frames per second.
iPhone X with 64GB or 256GB of storage
The iPhone X comes with iOS 11. The smartphone measures 7.7 mm thick. It weighs 174 grams. It is compatible nano-SIM, of course. It is available in two colors: Silver or Sidereal Gray. The iPhone X (64 GB) is available for 1159 euros at launch. The 256 GB version is available at 1329 euros.
