The Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra is the big-screen version of the Xperia XA2 unveiled at CES in Las Vegas 2018. The smartphone Xperia XA2 Ultra succeeds quite logically to the Xperia XA1 Ultra 2017 (which itself succeeded the XA Ultra 2016). It retains the mid-range positioning very focused on photography, as well as the format of its screen.
6-inch Full HD display
Indeed, physically, the XA2 Ultra is very close to its predecessor. Its dimensions are not strictly identical. It is a little smaller (-2 mm) and a little wider (+1 mm). It is also much thicker (+1.4 mm) to reach 9.5 mm. It is also heavier by 33 grams, reaching 221 grams. Its screen, on the other hand, retains the same properties: 16-inch IPS Full HD 6-inch (resolution of 367 pixels per inch) Corning Gorilla Glass mineral glass.
Snapdragon 630 and 4 GB of RAM
Inside, the XA2 Ultra, like the XA2, benefits from a considerable change: the chipset has been revised upwards. No more MediaTek midrange processors, Sony now includes a Snapdragon 630 on its midrange offer. It has eight cores Cortex-A53 clocked up to 2.2 GHz and a GPU Adreno 508.
The octo-core Qualcomm is accompanied by the same configuration as the XA1 Ultra. This translates to 4 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of storage depending on the version. A memory card reader extends the internal space by up to 256 GB.
3580 mAh battery with fast charge
The battery is also part of the improved elements. Its capacity goes from 2700 to 3580 mAh, which explains the overweight taken by the phone. This battery is always compatible fast charging. The technology is different, change of foundry requires: Pump Express + gives way to Quick Charge 3.0.
Like the Xperia XA2, the rear fingerprint sensor on the XA2 Ultra makes unlocking easy. Its edge-to-edge screen design and aluminum on the sides give it an elegant appearance.
The phone connectivity changes very slightly: the Bluetooth modem goes from version 4.2 to version 5.0, the 4G switches from LTE category 6 to LTE category 13 and the aptX wireless audio codec is now HD. WiFi n, 3.5mm jack, FM radio, NFC, USB type-C and GPS Glonass are always present.
23-megapixel camera at the back and double webcam at the front
Photo side, no change. The 23-megapixel sensor appeared in the Xperia XA1 is back, always associated with optics opening at f / 2.0, an LED flash and a phase detection autofocus. Xperia XA2 Ultra’s large 1 / 2.3 “Exmor RSTM ISO 12800 sensor ensures successful shots even in low light. Video capture goes from 1080p to 2160p (still at 30 frames per second) thanks to the chipset change. The slow-motion video mode of 120fps is also present on this smartphone.
At the front, the equipment of the XA2 Ultra is very different from the XA2. It differs from all other Sony smartphones since the phablet is the first to incorporate a dual photosensor. The main element of this duo is a cover of the webcam XA1 Ultra: a 16-megapixel sensor, lens opening at f / 2.0, optical stabilization and autofocus. The second sensor is an 8 megapixel model with lens opening at f / 2.4. It is mainly used to bring light and offer the famous portrait mode.
Comes with Android 8.0 Oreo
The mobile comes with Android 8.0 Oreo right out of the box. All of these elements are stored in an aluminum chassis, without plastic parts (unlike XA1 Ultra). The Xperia XA2 Ultra comes in four colors: black, silver, blue and gold (the pink is exclusive to XA2).
